Whether you practice or are considering practicing in the areas of dependency and neglect, juvenile delinquency, or adoption, or are a current Guardian ad Litem or are considering work in this area you will not want to miss this statutory update.
Sheri Danz of the Colorado Office of The Child Representative will present on HB22-1038 which was passed unanimously in both chambers, signed by the Governor in April, and is effective January 9, 2023. This bill provides for client-directed representation for youth ages 12 and older in dependency and neglect cases. Ms. Danz will present on cross-over cases practitioners may see although the statutory changes do not change the appointment of a GAL for children ages 11 and younger in D&N cases or the appointment of a GAL in other case types (juvenile delinquency, domestic relations etc.).
Ms. Danz will also present on the application process to become a court appointed representative for children and the changes to the way these appointments given the changes to the statute. Ms. Danz will be available to answer questions on the application process for the Office of the Child Representative for those practitioners considering working as court appointed representative.
