Celebrate Larimer County Law Day with a Lunch & CLE

Law Day is held on May 1st every year to celebrate the role of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession. This Law Day, join us for a captivating presentation by Professor Douglas Spencer of CU Law. Professor Spencer is an election law scholar whose research addresses the role of prejudice and racial attitudes in voting rights litigation, the empirical implications of various campaign finance regulations, and the ways that election rules and political campaigns contribute to growing inequality in America.

Professor Spencer dives deep into two of the most significant recent U.S. Supreme Court cases impacting race, elections, and the very foundation of our democracy. First,  Professor Spencer will unpack the Court's decision upholding the Voting Rights Act and the ongoing debate surrounding colorblindness in voting rights legislation. He'll even share the unique perspective his own scholarship provided to the case, cited by both the majority and dissenting opinions! You'll also get ahead of the curve on a potential landmark ruling in a South Carolina redistricting case. Professor Spencer will explore the Court's potential decision to alter how districts are drawn, potentially allowing race as a factor in certain circumstances.
